Juan Carlos Garcia-Gutierrez, 36, of Lancaster, California, drowned at Donner Lake near Truckee over Memorial Day weekend after entering the water from a pontoon boat without a flotation device. Wind carried the boat out of reach and he was unable to swim back; his body was located by a remotely operated vehicle approximately 105 feet underwater at around 9:20 p.m.

Jeffrey Poarch, 48, of Denton, Texas, died on May 24, 2026, after falling into Lake Lewisville while attempting to dock a boat with his brother near Eagle Point Marina around 7 p.m. The operator returned him to shore and CPR was administered by bystanders and first responders, but Poarch was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The Marshall Islands-flagged bulk carrier Cape XL and the Panama-flagged Huge Kumano collided near Singapore's eastbound traffic separation lane on May 20, 2026, after Cape XL departed an anchorage and struck the port side of the laden Huge Kumano amidships.
