Five Seriously Injured After Speedboat Slams Into Shore During Poker Run on Lake Allatoona, Georgia

On Saturday, August 8, 2026, just after 11 a.m., a large speedboat participating in a poker run event struck the shore of Lake Allatoona in Bartow County, Georgia, at a high rate of speed. All five people aboard were ejected from the vessel, and EMS crews transported all five to Kennestone Hospital in Cobb County with serious injuries. The Georgia DNR Law Enforcement Critical Incident Reconstruction Team is investigating the crash.

22 Crew Members Rescued After Fire Aboard Vehicle Carrier Min Jiang Kou 630 Miles Off Costa Rica

The U.S. Coast Guard coordinated the rescue of 22 mariners from the motor vessel Min Jiang Kou after a fire broke out aboard the vehicle carrier approximately 630 miles south of Costa Rica on Thursday, August 6, 2026. After the crew reported increasing smoke, the captain ordered the crew to abandon ship into lifeboats, and the good Samaritan vessel Jin Hai Ping recovered all 22 mariners by midday Friday. The rescued crew members are being transported to Akita, Japan, and no injuries were reported.
