Maersk Chattogram and HR Turag Damaged in Collision at Bangladesh's Chattogram Port

The container ship Maersk Chattogram collided with the domestic vessel HR Turag at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Friday, May 1, 2026, while approaching the pilot station at the outer anchorage of Chattogram Port. Both vessels were arriving from Singapore carrying roughly 2,800 containers of imported goods between them; the impact damaged the aft section of the Maersk vessel, though no crew injuries were reported. The damaged ships were brought to the jetty under special safety arrangements on May 3, and a joint investigation committee formed by the Department of Shipping and the Chattogram Port Authority is now probing the cause.

Newly released investigative findings shed additional light on the April 25, 2026, Shem Creek boating crash in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, that killed Citadel cadet Evan Greenleigh. According to the report, the group on the boat had been drinking for several hours — beginning around 7 p.m. — before the crash occurred just after 11 p.m. along King Street, with six people on board at the time. EMS attempted life-saving measures on Greenleigh, who remained on the vessel and was pronounced dead at 11:28 p.m.
