One Airlifted After Dive Boat and Fishing Boat Collide Off Barnegat Inlet, New Jersey

A 32-foot research/dive vessel and a 33-foot Grady-White fishing boat collided about eight miles off Barnegat Inlet at approximately 11:45 a.m. on July 31. One person aboard the dive boat was transferred to a Coast Guard vessel and airlifted to a hospital, and both boats began taking on water before salvage crews kept them afloat with dewatering pumps. Sources told Daily Voice the fishing boat's captain had fallen asleep while the vessel was on autopilot, though that has not been independently verified.

Vacherie Man Killed in Single-Boat Crash on Brazan Canal in St. James Parish, Louisiana

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries announced July 31 that it is investigating a fatal single-vessel boating incident on the Brazan Canal in Vacherie, St. James Parish. Austin R. McKee, 32, of Vacherie, was the only person aboard when his boat left the waterway while traveling west and struck a tree around 10 p.m. on July 25. His body was recovered at the scene and turned over to the parish coroner's office.
