Four Dead After Migrant Boat Sinks in English Channel
Four people — two women and two men — died on the morning of April 9 after a small boat sank in the English Channel off the coast of Boulogne-sur-Mer in northern France. The vessel was carrying approximately 30 people attempting to cross the Channel when it ran into trouble between the beaches of Equihen and Ecault around 7 a.m. local time. Another 38 people were rescued, with three requiring medical attention. The Boulogne prosecutor has opened an investigation into the incident.

Two California Men Killed in High-Speed Boat Crash on Colorado River
Two Northern California men were killed on the evening of April 8 when their 25-foot custom boat lost control at high speed on the Colorado River near Topock Gorge, just north of Lake Havasu, Arizona. The vessel crashed into the rock shoreline on the Arizona side before coming to rest on the California shoreline. The Mohave County Sheriff's Office identified the victims as Noah Welch, 33, and James Rutherford Jr., 53, both of Roseville, California. One was pronounced dead at the scene; the other died after being airlifted to a hospital.

Search Called Off for NZ Fishing Vessel Crew Member Lost Overboard
The search has been suspended for a crew member who was knocked overboard from the New Zealand-flagged trawler Amaltal Mariner on April 5 while deploying fishing gear approximately 215 nautical miles east of the Auckland Islands. The crew member was struck by a float at approximately 10:40 p.m. and was not sighted again after entering the water. Both Maritime New Zealand and the Transport Accident Investigation Commission have launched investigations, with investigators traveling to Bluff to gather evidence and interview the vessel's crew.
