Two Dead and Teen Rescued After Fishing Skiff Is Lost Near Savoonga, St. Lawrence Island, Alaska
An 18-foot fishing boat with three people aboard left the Bering Sea village of Savoonga on Friday night and was due back early Sunday; Alaska State Troopers were notified it was overdue around 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Poor weather delayed Coast Guard assets until Monday morning, when an HC-130 Hercules crew from Air Station Kodiak spotted a 15-year-old clinging to the capsized skiff about four miles east of the island. The teen was recovered with symptoms of hypothermia, while two other occupants were pulled from the water unresponsive and taken to Nome.

Two Missing and One Critically Injured in Two-Boat Collision on the San Joaquin River Near Stockton, California
Two vessels collided shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday at Prisoner Point near Hayes Beach on the San Joaquin River in San Joaquin County. Everyone aboard one boat was accounted for, but the second vessel overturned and sank with three people on board. One occupant was pulled from the water with major injuries and flown to a hospital in critical condition; the search for the two remaining occupants was suspended at nightfall and resumed Monday with the sheriff's dive team.

Three People and a Dog Rescued After Boat Capsizes on the Neuse River, Pamlico County, North Carolina
First responders were called Sunday to a report of distressed boaters whose vessel was taking on water on the Neuse River in Pamlico County. The boat capsized while crews were en route, and responders found three people and a dog on top of the overturned hull. All three were brought safely to shore and were evaluated and cleared by EMS, with assistance from the Pamlico County Sheriff's Office, the U.S. Coast Guard, N.C. Marine Patrol and other agencies.

Engine Room Fire Aboard Newly Delivered Ro-Ro Skipanes in the Taiwan Strait
The 30,301 gt ro-ro cargo vessel Skipanes, handed over to Faroese operator Smyril Line in late August, suffered an engine room fire on the afternoon of September 2 roughly 20 nautical miles off Taiwan while on her delivery voyage from China to the North Atlantic. The crew extinguished the blaze using the ship's CO2 suppression system, and none of the 23 crew members were injured. The vessel returned to China for technical inspection, and the cause remains under investigation.

Loaded Crude Tanker Pioner 1 Goes Adrift Off Marmara Island, Turkey
On September 5 the 244-meter, 109,996 dwt tanker Pioner 1 suffered a machinery failure and went adrift in the Sea of Marmara off Marmara Island while bound from Russia to China with roughly 96,500 tons of crude oil aboard. Turkish authorities dispatched the tug Kurtarma 16 and the SAR vessel Nene Hatun, which took the tanker under tow. The casualty was escorted to the Tekirdag anchorage without reported injuries or pollution.

Fishing Vessel GL-91620-TS Sinks in the South China Sea Off Quy Nhon, Vietnam
On the morning of September 5 the 21-meter fishing vessel GL-91620-TS sank in the South China Sea approximately 62 nautical miles east of Quy Nhon, Vietnam. All five crew members aboard were recovered by the nearby fishing vessel BD-97532-TS. No injuries were reported.
