Nine Rescued After Motorboat Capsizes Near Wangsan Marina, Incheon, South Korea
The Incheon Coast Guard received a report at about 7:17 a.m. on September 5 that a 1.6-ton motorboat was taking on water in waters near Wangsan Marina. The vessel capsized shortly afterward, but a passing fishing boat pulled all nine people aboard from the water by roughly 7:30 a.m. Two of the nine were unresponsive and not breathing and were taken to a hospital while receiving CPR; the coast guard dispatched five patrol vessels and an aircraft to the scene.

One Dead, Three Hospitalized After Fishing Boat Overturns at Echo Reservoir, Utah
The Summit County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call at approximately 11:30 a.m. reporting an overturned, sinking fishing boat at Echo Reservoir with four people in the water. Bystanders pulled all four from the reservoir and brought them ashore, but a 46-year-old man from Davis County was pronounced dead at the scene after life-saving efforts failed. Two other adults and a juvenile were transported to a hospital, and investigators said there was no indication of foul play in what they described as an apparent vessel crash.

Body of Ludington Angler Recovered From Hamlin Lake, Mason County, Michigan
Doug Laman, 68, of Ludington, was reported missing on the evening of September 2 after another boater heard someone yelling for help and saw a small, unoccupied boat circling northeast of Wilson Hill Park on Hamlin Lake. Emergency crews were called at 6:23 p.m., and his body was recovered on the morning of September 4 near where the boat was found. Investigators believe Laman was fishing when he fell overboard and was unable to climb back into the vessel.

Boat Operator Held Without Release After Fatal Fox River Collision in McHenry, Illinois
A judge has ordered Richard Stevenson, 45, held without pretrial release on charges including aggravated DUI and reckless homicide following a boat collision on the Fox River near McHenry, Illinois. Prosecutors allege Stevenson operated his vessel at roughly 80 mph in a no-wake zone despite a passenger's warning, running over another boat and decapitating one of its passengers. A blood draw reportedly showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.2, more than twice the 0.08 legal limit, and the court found his release would pose a threat to community safety.

Coast Guard Rescues 37 People From Disabled Boat 88 Miles Off Oxnard, California
Coast Guard watchstanders received a distress call at about 3:40 p.m. from a 30-foot pleasure craft roughly 88 miles off Channel Islands Harbor that had been drifting without fuel, food, or water for two days and lacked personal safety equipment. Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach diverted the cutters Sockeye and Halibut along with crews from Station Los Angeles-Long Beach, Station Channel Islands, and Air Station Barbers Point, locating the boat around 8:30 p.m. All 37 people aboard were taken onto the Sockeye and brought to Coast Guard Base Los Angeles-Long Beach, where they were turned over to Border Patrol.

Excursion Ferry Anwari Disabled Off the Gateway of India, Mumbai; 38 Rescued
The excursion vessel Anwari suffered an engine breakdown around 8:30 p.m. on the evening of September 3 while returning to the Gateway of India, stranding it approximately 1.5 nautical miles offshore with 34 passengers and four crew aboard. Police contacted the operator of another excursion boat, the Azad Hind, which reached the scene and towed the disabled vessel safely back to the jetty. All 38 people aboard were brought ashore without reported injuries.
