Two Filipino Seafarers Killed Aboard VLCC Sidr in Strait of Hormuz Attack
Two Filipino crew members were killed aboard the Bahri-owned very large crude carrier Sidr after the laden tanker was struck at approximately 23:40 local time on August 31 while transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Saudi Arabia attributed the strike to Iran; UK Maritime Trade Operations confirmed the fatalities on September 2. The crew contained the resulting fire and the vessel remained afloat, but the deaths are the first confirmed crew fatalities aboard a commercially operated tanker since hostilities in the region resumed.
Powerboat Strikes Rocks and Sinks at Pier 400, Port of Los Angeles; Four Rescued Including Two Children
A 30-foot powerboat struck the rock dike surrounding the Pier 400 container terminal at the Port of Los Angeles on Monday afternoon, began taking on water and ultimately capsized. Los Angeles Port Police Marine Unit officers responded around 4:30 p.m., joined by three Los Angeles Fire Department fireboats and the county lifeguard vessel Baywatch Cabrillo. All four people aboard, including two children, were brought to safety without injuries. Authorities have not released a cause.

Abandoned Cargo Ship Omskiy-107 Runs Aground Near Istanbul After Drifting Across the Black Sea
The 108-meter Russian-flagged general cargo ship Omskiy-107 washed ashore at Alacali Beach near Sile, on the Black Sea coast east of the Bosphorus, after drifting unmanned for roughly four weeks. The vessel had been abandoned by its crew following an attack near the Russian port of Novorossiysk that burned out its navigation bridge, and it travelled some 800 kilometers before grounding. Turkish authorities were alerted by residents who spotted the ship approaching the shore; no one was aboard at the time of the grounding.
