The U.S. Coast Guard launched a search on Wednesday for an 84-year-old boater reported missing off York Harbor, Maine. His 17-foot boat was found washed up on the shore of the Cape Neddick Oceanside Campground, and he was last seen aboard the vessel on Tuesday at 6:28 p.m. A fixed-wing aircraft and a Coast Guard unit from Portsmouth were assisting in the search, which remained active as of Wednesday.

One Seafarer Killed as Bulk Carrier Cape Dao Is Struck and Set Ablaze in the Strait of Hormuz Off Oman

The Antigua and Barbuda-flagged bulk carrier Cape Dao was hit by an unidentified projectile in the Strait of Hormuz off Oman’s Musandam coast at approximately 06:30 UTC on September 23, according to UK Maritime Trade Operations. The vessel caught fire and was left adrift, and the crew abandoned ship. One crew member, identified as 26-year-old Indian seafarer Suraj Yadav, was killed and at least one other was injured. The strike was the third reported attack on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz in a single week, following incidents involving the tanker LR Stephanie on September 21 and the LPG carrier Al Maryah on September 20.

Commercial Fishing Vessel Linda C Strikes the Los Angeles Breakwall and Sinks Outside the Main Channel

The commercial fishing vessel Linda C struck the Los Angeles breakwall and sank just outside the main channel on Sunday, September 20. The U.S. Coast Guard notified the NOAA Scientific Support Coordinator of the casualty on September 22 and requested a worst-case discharge assessment. The owner reported roughly 30 gallons of diesel and 10 gallons of hydraulic fluid aboard the sunken vessel; no sheening or signs of discharge had been observed at the time of the initial notification.

Three Dead and Four Missing After Fishing Boat S. Kanchanawari 888 Sinks in Heavy Seas Off Sattahip, Thailand

The Thai fishing vessel S. Kanchanawari 888 sank at around 10 p.m. Monday in the Samae San deep-water channel, several hours off the Chon Buri coast near Sattahip, after encountering strong winds and high waves. Twenty-two people were aboard, two Thai nationals and 20 Myanmar nationals. Fifteen crew were rescued, three were confirmed dead, and four remained missing as Royal Thai Navy units and nearby fishing boats continued searching in rough conditions.
