Three Men Drown After Fishing Boat Capsizes on a Private Lake in Houston County, Texas
Four men were fishing from a boat on a private lake near Grapeland in Houston County, Texas, when the vessel overturned on the evening of Sunday, September 20, 2026, putting all four into the water. Deputies were called at about 8:06 p.m.; one occupant, Juan Hernandez of Crockett, swam to shore, while the other three did not surface. The Houston County Sheriff's Office identified the three dead men on Monday as Sergio Quintero, Alexander Aldaco and Junior Perez, all of Crockett. Texas Game Wardens have taken over the investigation and say no foul play is suspected.

Kayaker, 21, Drowns Attempting to Rescue His Sister on Lake Norman, Terrell, North Carolina
North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission officers responded to a boating incident near Hearthstone Court in Terrell at about 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2026, after a woman's kayak capsized roughly 30 yards from a residential dock on Lake Norman. Her brother, 21-year-old Dorian Jackson of Greensboro, paddled out to help pull her onto his kayak; he was not wearing a life jacket. Neighbors brought the sister safely ashore, but Jackson went under and did not resurface. His body was recovered the following afternoon.

Coast Guard Completes Long-Range Medevac of Ill Crew Member From Container Ship Kotka, 100 Miles East of St. Maarten
Rescue Sub-Center San Juan was alerted after the master of the container ship M/V Kotka reported that a 46-year-old crew member had developed a rapidly progressing infection that was not responding to the medication carried aboard. The vessel was more than 1,300 nautical miles east of the Lesser Antilles at the time of the first call — far beyond helicopter range and days from port. A Coast Guard Air Station Borinquen MH-60T Jayhawk crew was pre-positioned in Sint Maarten on September 18 and, with an Air Station Miami HC-144 Ocean Sentry providing navigation support and top cover, hoisted the mariner on Saturday morning roughly 100 nautical miles east of St. Maarten and flew him to the trauma center at Centro Médico in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Coast Guard Suspends Search for Pilot After Aircraft Crashes Into the Pacific Off Newport, Oregon
Witnesses reported a twin-engine Beechcraft B95 going into the Pacific Ocean about a mile west of Nye Beach, near Yaquina Head Lighthouse in Newport, Oregon, at roughly 12:45 p.m. on Monday, September 21, 2026. The pilot, a 78-year-old man who was the sole occupant, was not found. The Coast Guard suspended the search at about 11 p.m. that night after covering approximately 124 square miles of ocean. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
