Cargo Ship Tuğberk İmamoğlu Sinks After Collision With Tanker in the Sea of Marmara
The Turkish-flagged general cargo ship Tuğberk İmamoğlu sank early Wednesday, September 2, after colliding with the Turkish-flagged tanker Alsu roughly 20 miles south of Silivri, on the western edge of Istanbul province. The collision occurred at approximately 3:00 a.m. local time, and the cargo vessel — loaded with rolled steel and bound from Iskenderun to Karadeniz Ereğli — reportedly went down within minutes. All 10 crew members, including the captain, remain missing; the ship's lifeboat and other debris were recovered empty, and two helicopters and a dozen search-and-rescue vessels have been deployed. The Alsu showed no visible damage.

Two Dead, One Still Missing After Pleasure Craft Collides With Towboat on the Monongahela River, Pennsylvania
A 24-foot Sea Swirl pleasure boat carrying five people collided with the towboat Megan Ames, which was pushing five empty jumbo barges upbound, around 9:00 p.m. Sunday, August 30, about a mile south of Rices Landing in Greene County, Pennsylvania. The pleasure craft capsized and all five occupants entered the water. The barge crew rescued two people, who were flown to area hospitals; one of them, a woman, was pronounced dead the following afternoon. Two additional bodies were recovered from the river on Tuesday, September 1, and one person remained unaccounted for as searches continued.

Two Canoeists Found Dead in Tomales Bay, Marin County, California
Two men who launched canoes from a boat-in campsite at White Gulch Beach shortly before midnight to view bioluminescence in Tomales Bay were found dead the following morning. The pair — a 36-year-old San Francisco resident and a 37-year-old Pacifica resident — failed to return, prompting their camping group to alert emergency services. One was recovered unresponsive in the water and the second was found near Hog Island on Sunday, August 30. Both men were wearing life jackets. Tomales Bay is known for strong winds, currents and cold water that make small-craft paddling hazardous, particularly at night.

Man, 75, Dies After Boat Capsizes on Sumach Lake, Vilas County, Wisconsin
Vilas County dispatchers received a report at about 2:31 p.m. Sunday, August 30, of a capsized boat on Sumach Lake in the Town of Arbor Vitae, with two men in the water. One man swam to shore to summon help while the other remained in the water clinging to a paddle; a good Samaritan brought him to shore. The 75-year-old man was speaking with responding medical personnel before suffering an unknown medical event and becoming unresponsive. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is investigating.

VLCC Senegal Prosperity Struck by Three Projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz
The UKMTO reported that a very large crude carrier was struck by three unknown projectiles during an outbound transit of the Strait of Hormuz, approximately 17 nautical miles northeast of Khasab, Oman. The incident was reported at 20:00 UTC on August 31. Maritime security firm Vanguard Tech identified the vessel as the Liberian-flagged, Sinokor-linked VLCC Senegal Prosperity, struck on its port side, engine room and ballast tank. No casualties or environmental impact were reported. The strike is the latest in a continuing series of attacks on commercial shipping in the waterway.
