One Killed and Two Critically Injured After Fishing Boat Strikes Rocks at Lime Point Beneath the Golden Gate Bridge, California
A 25-foot fishing vessel struck rocks near Lime Point, below the north tower of the Golden Gate Bridge, ran aground and capsized at about 6:13 a.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2026, throwing all three people aboard into San Francisco Bay. A San Francisco Police Department Marine Unit crew pulled the three from the water and brought them to the north shoreline, where the U.S. Coast Guard and fire crews from both the San Francisco and Marin County sides responded. Daniel Zhengyu Qin, 35, of San Jose, died of his injuries at a Marin County hospital; the two other boaters were hospitalized in critical condition. The Marin County Sheriff's Office is investigating the cause, with a post-mortem examination and toxicology testing pending.

Missing Crew Member Sought After North Korean Auxiliary Vessel Sinks 200 Kilometers Off Pohang, South Korea
A small auxiliary vessel belonging to a North Korean merchant ship sank in international waters roughly 200 kilometers southeast of Homigot, Pohang, on Thursday, September 17, 2026. The East Regional Headquarters of the Korea Coast Guard received a report from the South Korean Navy at about 10:52 a.m. that four people were unaccounted for, and dispatched two patrol vessels and an aircraft alongside a Navy ship and a fisheries patrol vessel. By about 12:18 p.m., the Japan Coast Guard confirmed that three of the four crew had been rescued; the search for the fourth continued.

Search for Missing Anglers Off Bagan Datuk Enters Fourth Day, Expanded to Lumut Waters, Malaysia

No major damage or casualties were reported, but the two governments gave sharply conflicting accounts: Indian officials said the Pakistani vessel shadowed the Indian ship, ignored repeated warnings and made a high-speed crossing directly ahead of its bow, while Pakistan's Foreign Ministry said its navy was conducting a scheduled exercise in its exclusive economic zone and called the Indian ship's conduct provocative. Both countries summoned each other's senior diplomats to lodge formal protests.

Racing Catamaran Leaves the Water and Crosses a Road After Striking a Dock on East Okoboji Lake, Iowa
A 42-foot catamaran-style racing boat operating on East Okoboji Lake between Stoney Point and the Narrows struck a dock at about 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2026, launched over a boat hoist holding another vessel, came ashore and crossed 255th Avenue before coming to rest. The operator, Duane Ver Meer, 73, and passenger Lisa Ver Meer, 68, both of Spirit Lake, were taken to Lakes Regional Health Care and then transferred to Sioux Falls. St. Louis Man, 36, Dies After Entering Shallow Water on the Gravois Arm of Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri
A 36-year-old St. Louis man died at about 10:37 a.m. on Wednesday, September 17, 2026, after jumping from a deck into shallow water on the Gravois arm of the Lake of the Ozarks and striking his head. He was pronounced dead at the scene by MU Health Care personnel. Authorities noted the man was not wearing a life jacket at the time.
