Two Killed as High-Speed Powerboat Hits Peninsula and Lands in Campsite at Lake Havasu, Arizona
Deputies from the Mohave County Sheriff's Office Division of Boating Safety were called to Lake Havasu just north of Cattail Cove State Park at about 7:08 p.m. on Saturday, September 12, and found a 2019 36-foot Douglas Marine powerboat overturned on land. Investigators say the boat was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck a large peninsula, went airborne and came down in a boat-in campsite north of the initial impact. Charles "Chip" Romer, 65, and Jennifer Luzzi, 59, both of Lake Havasu City, were found unresponsive near the wreckage and were pronounced dead at the scene by Lake Havasu City and San Bernardino County fire crews. Romer was a well-known figure in offshore performance boat racing and a former King of the Desert titleholder.

Bulk Carrier KMAX Emperor Sinks After Collision With True Mariner Off Kandla, India; 21 Crew Evacuated
The Liberia-flagged bulk carrier KMAX Emperor (IMO 9477426), loaded with coal, collided with the Barbados-flagged bulk carrier True Mariner (IMO 9599822) near the Outer Tuna Buoy anchorage off Kandla, Gujarat, on September 11. The Indian Coast Guard evacuated 21 of the 24 crew aboard the KMAX Emperor, with three remaining on board to support operations; all 24 were accounted for and no crew were reported missing. The KMAX Emperor began to sink and briefly dragged the True Mariner with it before the second vessel released its anchor and moved clear, after which its crew assisted in recovering seven seafarers from the water. The Coast Guard activated pollution-response measures and is coordinating with the Directorate General of Shipping, central agencies and the Gujarat administration.

Seafarer Killed and Several Injured After Projectile Strikes Commercial Vessel Near Hengam Island, Strait of Hormuz
An Iranian commercial vessel carrying ten crew was struck by an unidentified projectile at roughly 5:00 a.m. local time on Sunday, September 13, in the vicinity of Hengam Island near the Shib Daraz coast of Qeshm Island, in the Strait of Hormuz. One crew member, identified in Iranian media as Jamshid Rajabi, was killed and three to four others were wounded. A fire broke out aboard the ship and local authorities assisted in evacuating the crew; United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations confirmed a vessel transiting the strait had been hit and that a fire had followed. Officials said neither the type of projectile nor the party responsible had been identified, and no group has claimed the attack.
Good Samaritan Brings Three Ashore After 12-Foot Boat Capsizes Near Fort De Soto, Florida
Three people were rescued on Sunday, September 13, after their 12-foot boat capsized near the Bunces Pass Bridge off Fort De Soto in the St. Petersburg area. According to the U.S. Coast Guard, a passing good Samaritan vessel brought all three safely to shore. The capsized boat has since been tied off and a safety bulletin is being broadcast on VHF Channel 16 to warn other mariners of the hazard; Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg urged boaters whose vessels are left on the water to contact command center watchstanders to arrange a salvage plan.
