Two Elderly Boaters Injured After Vessel Strikes Shore Near Sunset Beach Marina, Cheat Lake, West Virginia
A boat ran into the shoreline near Sunset Beach Marina on Cheat Lake in Monongalia County on the morning of Wednesday, September 9, 2026, forcing dirt and sand into the vessel. First responders were called to the Sunset Beach area around 9:30 a.m. and helped a couple in their 70s to safety. The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources towed the damaged boat in and is investigating the cause alongside the Monongalia County Sheriff's Department.

One Dead and One Injured in Boat Crash at Union Valley Reservoir, El Dorado County, California
One person was killed and another suffered a head injury in a single-vessel boating accident at Union Valley Reservoir in California's El Dorado National Forest, reported around 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. Three adults were aboard at the time; the third occupant was uninjured. The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office is investigating, and authorities have not said whether mechanical failure, a medical emergency, or weather played a role.

Two Children Seriously Hurt as Towed Tube Strikes Unoccupied Boat on Big Kandiyohi Lake, Minnesota
A pontoon towing an inflatable tube with four children aboard collided with an unoccupied boat on Big Kandiyohi Lake in Fahlun Township, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota, at about 6:34 p.m. Two of the children were taken to CentraCare Hospital in Willmar with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while the other two were unhurt. All four were wearing life jackets, and the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate.

Argument Between Boaters Ends in Collision and Capsizing Near Durney Key, Port Richey, Florida
A verbal dispute between two groups of boaters off Port Richey in Pasco County, Florida escalated into a collision after one vessel swerved into the other. A 21-foot offshore yacht carrying four people struck a 15-foot Carolina Skiff carrying two, ejecting the skiff's occupants into the water and overturning the vessel. One person was transported as a trauma alert. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating with assistance from the Port Richey Police Department Marine Unit, and investigators are asking witnesses to come forward.
