Ava Moore, an 18-year-old recent graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy Preparatory School, was killed on May 25 when a personal watercraft struck her kayak from behind near Oak Grove Park on Grapevine Lake in Texas. Investigators say Moore and another kayaker had been trying to paddle away from a jet ski that was making repeated high-speed passes close to the shoreline. The operator, 21-year-old Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez, allegedly fled the scene and was later indicted by a Tarrant County grand jury on a manslaughter charge.

Six Injured After Boat Strikes Channel Marker in Barnegat Bay, New Jersey
Six people were hurt on Monday, May 25, when a vessel struck a channel marker in Barnegat Bay near the Brant Beach section of Long Beach Township, New Jersey, with emergency crews responding shortly before 6 p.m. According to New Jersey State Police, two of the six occupants were ejected into the water on impact and were transported to an area hospital in critical condition. The remaining four people aboard were treated for minor injuries.

Three Hospitalized After 19-Foot Boat Strikes Rocks on Hillsborough River in Tampa
A late-night boat crash on the Hillsborough River near Seminole Heights in Tampa sent three people to the hospital on Sunday, May 24, when a 19-foot vessel carrying four occupants struck shoreline rocks near Ignacio Haya Linear Park around 11:30 p.m. Tampa Police and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission investigators say two men were thrown overboard, with one requiring CPR after he was pulled from the water by a bystander who heard cries for help. FWC is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
