Fishing Vessel Crewman Killed in Collision With Cargo Ship Off Phu Hai, Vietnam
On the morning of July 6, 2026, the 17-meter fishing vessel BTh 98379 TS collided with the 130-meter cargo vessel Viet Thuan 11-07 in the South China Sea, approximately 10 nautical miles southeast of Phu Hai, Lam Dong, Vietnam. All 17 crew members were thrown into the sea as the fishing vessel rolled over and sank; nearby fishing boats rescued 16 crew members, but one crewman was killed. Authorities have detained the cargo vessel at anchorage outside Phan Thiet and launched an investigation.

Ferry Runs Aground Near Pari Island, Indonesia; All 150 Passengers Evacuated
On the morning of July 5, 2026, the ferry KM Makmur Jaya ran aground in the Java Sea near Pari Island, South Thousand Islands, North Jakarta, Indonesia, after suffering engine problems in rough weather — reportedly caused by water mixing with the fuel. Passenger Thrown From Boat Drowns in Kennebec River Near Skowhegan, Maine
A 21-year-old Skowhegan man drowned late Saturday morning, July 4, 2026, after being thrown from a 16-foot Lund boat traveling just north of the Hinkley Boat Launch on the Kennebec River.
