Two Crew Missing After French Trawler Maranello Sinks Near Eddystone Lighthouse, English Channel
The Saint-Brieuc-registered fishing vessel Maranello (SB 933547) reported a problem with its fishing gear to a nearby trawler, the Stradale, on the evening of August 29, 2026, and sank a short time later roughly 26 nautical miles southwest of Plymouth, near the Eddystone Lighthouse. The Stradale recovered three of the five crew before the vessel went down; one of the rescued fishermen was airlifted to a hospital in Truro and the other two were landed at Plymouth by RNLI lifeboat. MRCC Falmouth coordinated an extensive multi-day search involving British and French lifeboats, helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft for the two missing crew, which was later concluded with no trace found.

Businessman Killed as Two Yachts Are Destroyed in Sudden Storm Off Cape Greco, Cyprus
A violent storm with heavy rain struck the bay between Konnos and Agioi Anargyroi at Cape Greco, Cyprus, on the afternoon of August 29, 2026, putting three vessels at risk. The JRCC activated the national search and rescue plan at approximately 2:30 p.m.; the luxury motor yacht Perla Bianca and a second boat, the Pelas 1, were driven onto the rocks and destroyed. Four people, including the yacht owner's wife and daughter, were airlifted to hospital, while the 76-year-old owner — who reportedly stayed aboard in an attempt to save the vessel — was found unconscious in the water and later pronounced dead.

The race boat "Dirty Duck" became airborne while running at approximately 200 mph during the 38th annual Lake of the Ozarks Shootout in Missouri on Saturday, August 29, 2026, flipping backward and landing hard in the water. Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers responding to the scene found the 45-year-old driver with serious injuries; the 39-year-old throttleman was not hurt. The event's second and final day proceeded as scheduled at the Grand Glaize Arm.

Body Recovered After Person Goes Missing in the Water Off Charlotte Pier, Lake Ontario, New York
Monroe County Sheriff's deputies, Rochester police, multiple fire departments and New York State Police Aviation responded to numerous 911 calls on the night of Saturday, August 29, 2026, reporting a person missing in Lake Ontario roughly 1.5 miles offshore of the Charlotte Pier in Rochester, New York. Search operations continued overnight and through the following day. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office announced on August 30 that the missing person's body had been recovered; an identity was not released.
