Search Continues for 17 Crew of Vietnamese Squid Vessel QNa-90859-TS in the South China Sea
Vietnamese authorities are continuing search and rescue operations for the crew of the 23.9-meter squid-fishing vessel QNa-90859-TS, which lost contact on August 26, 2026 while operating roughly 540 nautical miles south-southeast of the Son Tra peninsula. The vessel had sailed from An Hoa port on July 29 with 49 crew aboard under captain Huynh Van Tri, and its last recorded position placed it near An Bang island in rough seas with level 5-6 southwesterly winds. Search teams recovered 32 crew members in weakened condition on August 28, and Vietnam Coast Guard vessel KN 472 transported them toward Truong Sa Lon Island while the search for the remaining crew continues.

Coast Guard Hoists Two From Grounded Vessel Near Bulls Bay, South Carolina
An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Facility Charleston hoisted two people from a vessel that ran aground near Bulls Bay in Charleston County, South Carolina, in a rescue reported on August 29, 2026. Both individuals were flown to a nearby airport and transferred to local emergency medical services. The Coast Guard reported no injuries.

Three Texas Tech Athletes Injured in Two-Jet-Ski Collision at Lake Ransom Canyon, Texas
Three members of the Texas Tech softball program were injured when two personal watercraft collided during a team event at Lake Ransom Canyon outside Lubbock, Texas, on the afternoon of Thursday, August 27, 2026. The first 911 call came in at 3:38 p.m., and the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office logged three adult women with injuries to the extremities, legs and a hand; one was transported by EMS to University Medical Center while two others went by personal vehicle. Ransom Canyon police and fire, along with Texas Parks and Wildlife, opened an investigation, and the university said no injuries were critical and all three are expected to make a full recovery.
