Two Idaho Men Killed After Jet Boat Capsizes Below Palisades Dam on the Snake River
Two men and a woman were riding in a jet boat on the Snake River just below the main outlet of Palisades Dam in Bonneville County, Idaho, when the vessel overturned and capsized at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 28, 2026. The woman reached the riverbank safely, bystanders pulled one man from the water and began CPR, and the second man remained trapped beneath the overturned hull until dive and rescue teams freed him. Both men were airlifted to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center and later died; the Bonneville County Coroner identified them as Robert Martineau, 73, and Brandon Rainey, 39, both of Idaho Falls. Deputies said none of the occupants were wearing life jackets, although some were aboard the boat.

Twelve Crew Rescued as Cargo Ship Progress IV Burns and Sinks in Romania's EEZ
The Dominica-registered general cargo ship Progress IV reported a fire aboard at around 1800 on August 27, 2026, roughly 15 nautical miles off the Romanian coast in the Black Sea while bound for Turkey. Two search-and-rescue vessels from Romania's ARSVOM reached the ship about 20 minutes after the distress call and recovered 10 crew members, while the merchant ship Mohamad B picked up two more; one person was reported injured. Romanian President Nicusor Dan said the 7,298-dwt vessel appeared to have been attacked and is believed to have sunk, though he cautioned that the circumstances remain under investigation.

A banca-type motorised outrigger passenger boat capsized while transiting Mapanuepe Lake in San Marcelino municipality, Zambales province, in the northern Philippines on Thursday, August 27, 2026.
