Boat Operator Killed, Passenger Injured After High-Speed Crash on Oxbow Lake, Michigan
A 71-year-old White Lake man died and a 56-year-old Taylor man was injured on the afternoon of Tuesday, August 25, when a boat traveling at an excessively high rate of speed on Oxbow Lake in Oakland County became airborne, struck the water on its side and sank in roughly 50 feet of water. The passenger was ejected and pulled from the water by bystanders aboard a nearby pontoon boat and was hospitalized in stable condition, while the operator went down with the vessel and was recovered by divers the following morning. Investigators determined neither man was wearing a personal flotation device, and the Oakland County Medical Examiner ruled the death an accidental drowning.

Tanker Set Ablaze by Projectile Strike in the Strait of Hormuz
UKMTO reported that a tanker transiting the Strait of Hormuz was hit by an unknown projectile on August 25, sparking a fire aboard the vessel that has since been extinguished. All crew were reported safe and accounted for, and no environmental impact was reported. The Joint Maritime Information Center said in an August 25 update that Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has continued attacks, attempted attacks and harassment of merchant shipping in the strait, including drone overflights and targeted surveillance.

Aframax Tanker Metro Venetian Disabled After Engine Room Strike Off Oman
The Liberian-registered aframax tanker Metro Venetian was struck by an unknown projectile roughly 9 nautical miles northeast of Ash Shishah, Oman, on August 24. The strike hit the vessel's engine room, leaving the tanker disabled. The incident was one of a continuing series of attacks on commercial shipping in and around the Strait of Hormuz.

Child and Two Adults Rescued After Vessel Capsizes in Storm, Berkeley County, South Carolina
Berkeley County Sheriff's Office Marine Patrol deputies rescued a young child and two adults from the water on the evening of Saturday, August 22, after a small vessel struck rocks and capsized during a sudden severe storm bringing extremely high winds. Two other occupants managed to climb onto the rocks and reach the top of the dike on their own. A deputy entered the water to reach those still in the water, and all were evaluated by Berkeley County EMS at Adkins' Boat Landing; the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources is investigating.
